Reclaim Your Space and Discover the Ultimate Summer Family Fun in Walker County North Georgia

Summer 2026 is officially here, and our little corner of North Georgia is absolutely buzzing! If you're trying to figure out how to keep the kids active, entertained, and learning without driving all the way into Chattanooga every single day, you are in luck.

Easy Self Storage is sharing a list of local activities not just near us in Rossville and Ft Oglethorpe, but throughout Walker & Catoosa counties. See below for some ideas the whole family can enjoy.

Cherokee Regional Library System (CHRL) just posted it's 2026 Summer Reading Program, themed "Unearth a Story" Running from June 1 through July 19, 2026, this free community initiative is packed with paleontology workshops, hands-on activities, and reading challenges tailored for families all over Walker and Catoosa County.
The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge is a completely free way to beat the "summer slide" and keep your kids' minds sharp between school years at Battlefield, West Side, or Cherokee Ridge Elementary.
Sign Up: Create a free account online at chrl.beanstack.org or grab a physical, classic paper log at your neighborhood branch. As the kids log their reading milestones, they'll rack up digital tickets for grand prize drawings—including free museum passes and local park admissions. Plus, every single child or teen who completes their target goals walks away with a brand-new book to keep forever.

Rossville Public Library - 504 McFarland Ave.
Right in the heart of town, our local Rossville team is focusing heavily on making reading accessible and fun. Pop in to grab your reading logs or check out their incredible Georgia State Park & Museum Passes, which can get the whole crew free entry into the Chattanooga Zoo or a day trip down to Cloudland Canyon.
Another idea, Swing through the Big Biscuit Barn or grab an iced coffee at Be Caffeinated at the historic Peerless Mill. If you're more in a lunch mood, the The Snack Shack or Legion Cafe are two of our favorite places. Then head over to the library for storytime, and let the kids pick out a massive stack of books for the week.

Chickamauga Public Library - 306 Cove Road
If you’re down closer to the historic Gordon-Lee Mansion or heading toward the Crawfish Spring area, the Chickamauga branch has a stellar lineup. This branch is a major hub for interactive kid workshops. Don't miss their kickoff events featuring the Noah's Little Ark Petting Zoo, where toddlers and elementary schoolers get to interact with live farm animals right at the library. Their is also host dedicated teen crafting spaces and middle-school science sessions focused on archaeology and dinosaur digs.

LaFayette-Walker County Public Library - 305 S. Duke St

Just a short drive down Highyway 27, the central LaFayette branch is hosting some of the biggest single-day events of the summer.
Pioneer Day (June 9): A massive, interactive family heritage day featuring local historical exhibits, old-school crafts, and hands-on fun. They are also hosting a unique Felt Pennant Workshop specifically designed to give middle and high school students (grades 6–12) a creative, hands-on outlet.

While the libraries are handling the indoor entertainment, our outdoor spaces are calling. Whether your weekends are spent riding the coasters at Lake Winnepesaukah, packing up the truck for youth softball tournaments at Barnhardt Cir Ball Field,  Rossville Recreation Park, or the Jack Mattox Recreation Complex, or heading down to the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park for an afternoon bike ride through the battlefields, summer requires a lot of equipment.

By mid-June, the classic North Georgia home layout changes. Kayaks clog up the back porch, baseball bags block the hallway, camping gear from weekends in the valley piles up in the garage, and pool floats take over the spare room. Or that project vehicle is just taking up to much room in the garage.

Between massive stacks of library books, sports gear for trips down Battlefield Parkway, and pool toys, summer fun can quickly take over your home. Making a quick stop off the McFarland corridor can save your sanity this season.
